Assistant Principal's Page

Greetings South Asheboro Middle School,

My name is Yajaira Owens and I am thrilled to be a member of the South Asheboro Middle School Team. I was born and raised in Los Angeles, CA and moved to Asheboro, NC my senior year, graduating from Asheboro High School in 1997. I continued my education and received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from High Point University, Master of Science in School Counseling from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University, and National Board Certification. I earned my Post-Graduate School Administrative License from the University of North Carolina Greensboro through the Piedmont Triad Leadership Academy.

I began my education career as a School Counselor in Randolph County Schools. In 2009, I returned to Asheboro High School and joined the Blue Comet Academy as the freshman counselor until 2013.

As a Cohort 3 member of the Piedmont Triad Leadership Academy (PTLA), I served as a Principal Intern at Donna Lee Loflin Elementary School in 2013-14, participating in a one-year, full-time principal internship. The focus of PTLA is to prepare aspiring school leaders to become successful leaders of high-need schools. I was Assistant Principal at North Asheboro Middle School from 2014-2016.

I look forward to meeting and working with our teachers, staff, students, parents, and community members. I am committed to building strong, caring relationships that are vital to creating and maintaining individual and school excellence!

Respectfully,

Yajaira Owens
