I. Using Notebook
a. Organization (everything stays in notebook until the end of the six weeks when I clean it out and put work in a portfolio until the end of the year)
b. Check your child’s progress at any time by looking at his/her Table of Contents
III. Library
a. We will go as a class every three weeks (students may go at other times if needed)
IV. Accelerated Reader (AR)
a. Two AR Tests are required each grading period
V. Scholastic Book Orders
a. Able to purchase monthly for a great price
b. Please make checks payable to Scholastic Book Clubs
VI. Spelling
a. Spelling will be done each week for the first 10 weeks
b. Pretest given on Monday for Spelling Test
c. Spelling homework will be given every night
d. Spelling Test on Friday
VII. Daily Oral Language (DOL)
a. Two sentences reviewed daily
b. Test over sentences on Friday
VIII. Homework
a. Not having homework, including Reading Log signatures, 1 time=warning, 2 times=silent lunch, 3 times=detention. (A detention will knock your child out of Comet Club, including the outing at the end of the year.)
b. Student planner is an excellent way to check for your child’s homework assignments. It’s also a great way to get in touch with your child’s teacher by writing a note inside.
