Hello I am Ms. Cope and am a UNCG BFA Graduate in Art Education and am starting my third year of teaching at South Asheboro Middle School. I have participated in the North Carolina Museum of Art's Art of Collaboration Project to help core classroom teachers and visual arts teachers collaborate and create lessons that merge both core subjects together. I am a member of our schools AVID site team and practice many AVID learning strategies in the classroom. I also hold memberships in the NAEA and NCEA.

What I like in art is just about everything. My art taste is very similar to my music taste; I am a very eclectic type of person and enjoy the sheer beauty of creativity. My preferences though usually are pieces that have a strong use of color, value, shape, line, and texture. I love Georgia O' Keeffe, Piet Mondrian, Frank Lloyd Wright, Yoshitaka Amano, Ruth Thompson, and Edward Hopper. What I like to create as an artist myself usually is ceramics and watercolors and recently have taken up learning how to create stained glass. I have always been a messy worker and will usually try just about anything.

In the Visual Arts classroom you will be challenged with course work based on the NC Standard course of Study. You will discover an appreciation for art history, aesthetics, production, and criticism through the rigorous study of the Elements of Art and Principles of Design. We will be incorporating AVID based methodology in our studies. We will be using every day an interactive sketchbook journal for note taking, creative writing, journaling, creative journals, and renderings. The interactive sketchbook journal will be the portfolio for your student to see their artistic growth this semester.

This school year we are all also excited to be able to be a part of the 1:1 laptop initiative, where your student will be able to use laptops in all of their classes. Due to this use of technology in the classroom your student will be using our classrooms’ Visual arts webpage at http://mscopesartroom.weebly.com/index.html . I am very excited about the ability to have this extra resource to help you child as a 21st century thinker.
The art room is always in need of donated supplies and volunteers. The art classroom also has a Donors Choose website at www.donorschoose.org under Jaimie Cope; here you can find supplies listed that the art classroom would like to have for your child’s education.
 Sincerely,
Jaimie Cope
